Why add melamine to milk?

September 24, 2008 2 comments

This allows milk to be diluted with water by the unscrupulous and the greedy to give more volume.  The ‘protein’ levels are then built up back by adding the protein substitute (melamine).

Melamine is used in making plastics and is loaded with nitrogen molecules. Because of the high nitrogen content, this makes milk products appear to have a higher protein count as the current methods of measuring protein are based on measuring the nitrogen content alone.

Lunch at Imperial Rama, Genting Highlands

April 25, 2008 Leave a comment

We spent a night at Genting Permai Resort for the weekend a couple of weeks ago. We don’t have to pay for the room as Aiyu’s friend got it from some time-sharing thing.

We bought lots of stuff for the steamboat dinner, to be had in the apartment. But we forgot to bring all the vegetables, so our steamboat was an all meat affair. :)

After dinner, we just hanged out in the apartment, watching TV and played ‘big two’ aka ‘chor dai ti’. Nothing much, just to relax ourselves.

The next morning we checked out and headed for breakfast at Gohtong Jaya. After breakfast, we took the cable car up to Genting proper and walked around. While Aiyu’s friend went to play bowling (free of charge also), we just hanged around the indoor theme park.

Genting was organizing the Thai Songkran festival. There were young people playing water splashing with the body fully wet. Can you imaging how cold that must be?

Then it’s time we went for the lunch, courtesy of Aiyu’s friend’s friendly neighbour. It was at the Imperial Rama Restaurant located at Highland Hotel. I really cannot recall how many dishes we had, but I was damn full after that. Here are some of the highlights:

Cod fish wrapped in bean curd skin

Pig hands

Some dessert

Durian tempura, we love this. Cold durian paste wrapped and fried with flour.

Mango served with glutonous rice

After lunch, we took the cable car back down. We drove really slow as we were really full. Luckily we were driving Aiyu’s car, if it was my car with the firmer suspension, I’m sure the food was gonna come back out thru out throat. :)
