Kuala Kelawang Touge – The Real Thing

•June 9, 2009 • Leave a Comment

I was on a business trip to Kem Bina Negara at Hutan Percha, Alor Gajah. Things ended early and I have some time to spare. So I took a big detour away from the usual NSE. I exited at Senawang and headed to a small village called Pantai, near Seremban.

From Pantai, I took the route going thru Kuala Kelawang, Titi, Kg Chennah then headed towards Hulu Langat. See the map below. Just look at the terrain, you should be able to guest how interesting this piece of tarmac is. :)

Link to Google Map here.

 * If you intend to pay a visit to this touge, skip the Kg Chennah/Kg Siamat part. It’s just too narrow to have fun.

Scuba diving

Aiyu and I signed up for scuba diving open water course back in March. Scuba diving has been one of the things that we wanted for a long time. When my friend said he’s organizing the course for his company, we jumped in. Our instructor is Syed from Kids Scuba. They hold the record for certifying the most number of SSI Scuba Rangers worldwide.

We had 3 theory and 3 pool sessions. Today is our last pool session. The next session will be the open water certification at Tioman. I thoroughly enjoyed the pool sessions. Can’t wait to taste the salt water at the sea.

This is one expensive hobby I must tell you. Equipments are expensive. When life is at stake, you don’t cut corners. Dive trips are expensive as well. So, thing twice before you take up scuba diving. Life is short, you don’t know what will happen to you tomorrow, so I’m all for it… :)

Cycling Updates

It’s been a long time since I’ve last updated about cycling. The cycling progress has been quite slow actually. I’ve only done about 670km from my last update dated Dec 24th 2008. Which is about 100km a month. I usually cycle around 20km per session, that worked out to around about only one session a week… Not good enough!

Well, having said that, I actually did a lot of cross training during this period. Mainly swimming and inline-skating. More about inline-skating later.

And this was what I managed this morning:

Total Time: 1:22

Distance: 26.3km

Average Speed: 19.1km/h

Average HR: 160bpm (Max 183bpm)

Uphill: 5 laps

Gear Ratio: 2-2*

*The higher the number, the higher the gear. When I first started, I used 1-1 to go uphill, then progressed to use 1-2, 1-3, 1-4 and now 2-2. That means the muscle strength has improved. This way of using higher gear to cycle uphill, I can increase the intensity of the workout instead of duration.

Mom’s Angiogram

•June 5, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Sent my mother to the Serdang Hospital to do an angiography of the heart. To check if there’s any blockage of blood vessel around the heart. The actual procedure will be done today, probably at the time I’m typing here. Once the doctor gets the angiogram, we shall know exactly is there any blockage. Will go to the hospital in the afternoon to check her out. Hopefully there’s no serious blockage. Fingers crossed!

Time for me to go swimming… Will update here soon.

[Updated on 20090606]

Doctor confirmed that there’s one blockage. Need to come back for an angioplasty later.
